Working on meanwhile developments often means we’re the first people to turn our attention to buildings which have been unloved for years. Without the coming and going of people, buildings deteriorate and a once-prominent facade can fade from view. Makespace’s new venture is to transform a space which was once a Chinese restaurant into ‘The Community Works’, a community space and civic-engine for thriving and connected groups of people.
We’ve been exploring how public art, and the building’s close proximity to key transport routes can be used to reinvigorate a building that has dropped out of the imaginations of passers by, to breath new life into a building which is often viewed but rarely seen.
